We haven’t had the opportunity to venture too far into the catalog of effects from Mattoverse Electronics, but we were really excited to check out today’s pedal, the Warble Swell Deluxe Delay. This analog-sounding digital delay produces extremely warm, vintage-ish delay tones, and throws a bunch of intriguing options into the mix as well. Creatives and experimenters will love this one, so let’s jump in and see what it’s all about!
Aside from the usual Time, Repeats and Mix controls found on many delay pedals, the Warble Swell Deluxe features a Warble switch, which activates the warble function. Controlled by a latching footswitch, you can conjure up a wide range of tones, from pseudo-chorus to wild pitch-shifting and more. A Boost knob also gives you access to up to +10dB in additional Gain if you should need it.
There’s a Swell function as well, which is controlled by a momentary footswitch, and allows you to max out the Repeats. Utilizing the Swell Rate knob, you can set how fast this effect will occur, for some extremely dynamic sonic ebbs and flows. This control, in conjunction with the Warble function, opens up the floodgates for experimentation and spaced-out, tape echo exploration.
Hand-made in my favorite state ever, Wisconsin, the Mattoverse Electronics Warble Swell Deluxe Delay is just plain fun. You can get regular-types of delay sounds, for sure, but the real meat and potatoes of this one is in the modulated aspects, earning it a key spot in the list of analog, tape echo-emulating effects. After this and the regular version of the Swell Delay, which came through the shop a couple years ago, we’re stoked on the Mattoverse lineup, and hope to have some more for you real soon.
