Octave pedals add a whole new dimension to your sound, whether it’s from a guitar, bass, synth or whatever. Big box, old school pedals from Electro-Harmonix are fun to play, hands down. Put both of these things together, and you’ve got the 1970s Octave Multiplexer Analog Sub-Octave Generator, which we will be taking a look at today…(thanks to Anthony from Marla Amps for lending me this beauty)

Electro-Harmonix Octave Multiplexer Analog Sub-Octave Generator 2

The EHX Octave Multiplexer Analog Sub-Octave Generator delivers deep, phat bass tones one octave below the notes you play. Two separate smoothing filters enable you to tailor your sub-octave signal to the exact bass sound you desire, separating the Octave Multiplexer from other octave devices. This pedal is ideal for achieving synthesizer-like textures or adding massive weight to guitars and basses.

This version of the Octave Multiplexer features a Sub switch, which lets you switch the Bass Filter in or out of the signal. The wide range from the High Filter and Bass Filter controls open up new, strange and unique sonic possibilities, and the Blend control makes everything more wacky the more it is increased. If you’re looking for that analog, monophonic, beautifully subby and wubby sound that’ll make your speakers cry tears of sub-octave joy… look no further.

You immediately know this is a vintage EHX machine when you glance at it, right? You know it’s gonna be a little off-kilter and make you re-think how you approach music, right? That’s the charm and wonder that comes from 50+ year-old effects units from the cosmic creators at Electro-Harmonix. The Octave Multiplexer Analog Sub-Octave Generator might not be applicable in every musical environment, but if you like to experiment and come up sounds bordering on the insane, this big silver gem is a good place to start. Check out our demo to hear how this thing can really mix up your playing and writing, it sure is fun to play! Cheers!
