Truer words have never been spoken, both in general and especially when in relation to today’s magnificently funky featured pedal. The Analogue Filter 442 from Mojo Hand FX brings SOOOO much funk to the table, yet utilizes only two control knobs, making it easy to dial in, yet complex in the amount of range you have for such a simple configuration. The two knobs present here are labeled Level and Range, but they actually have ulterior motives. The Level knob really adjusts the overall frequencies contained in the output signal, while Range is more geared towards a sensitivity control and sets where the filter begins to sweep. Threshold sensitive, this one is, and responds in kind to the speed and ferocity of your pick attack and playing style, to add to its already impressive stature. This sensitivity also makes for a HUGE range of available tones, as the slightest adjustment to either control will make the sound go off in a completely different direction.
Based on the classic DOD 440 Envelope Filter (think Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead-type sounds), the Analogue Filter 442 takes that vintage pedal and ups the ante, adding true bypass switching and an on/off LED, while still keeping those same funky rhythm tones in tact. The demo video below offers a pretty wide spectrum of the sounds you can coax out of this gem, but its really a fun one to sit down with and figure out for yourself. Not to mention the fact that you can get one for less than 100 bucks if you search a bit, while the original DOD 440 can go for over $400 in some cases.
