I have always dug the circuits coming out of the MMK Electrics camp, and it’s always a treat to get their latest creation in our shop. Following in the footsteps of the Norris Fuzz, Red Cream Soda Overdrive Distortion and the pair of Custom Shop PNP Boost Type 14 & 32, we bring you not one but TWO incredible new fuzzes. The Pavlof Fuzz comes in 2 different iterations, and they both sound quite amazing…
Two Knobs, two transistors, two footswitches – these Pavlofs are easy to use analog fuzzes, with a rad cleanup function. These two options come together to give you both classic fuzz and cleaned up fuzz tones at a footswitch click. A four position selector switch gives you the choice of expressing highs, mids, or lows on your guitar or bass, and an Internal Trim: Sets your desired clean up amount.
Pavlof Fuzz is available in two circuit topologies:
– Darlington Electra – This Darlington circuit has a fuzztortion characteristic. Treble boost character to full bodied fuzz. Cleans up to overdrive and trebly boost tones.
– Silicon Fuzz Face – A usable fixed fuzz and bias, like having the “fuzz” control on your fuzz face slightly dialed back. Circuit cleans up to that classic glassed smooth bluesy tone.
There are three main parts to each of these circuits:
– Bourns Audio transformer, high pass filter, and an internal thumb adjustable trimmer.
– Fixed fuzz circuit built with Fairchild 2N2222A transistors.
– A 2db op-amp stage to make up volume on cleanup volume engagement.
These two Pavlof Fuzz circuits sound awesome on their own, but if you stack ’em up, new fuzz-laden worlds are instantly created. MMK Electrics pedals are hand-crafted in Alaska, with their steel enclosures broke, powder coated, and hand-screened all right on the Kenai Peninsula. They use hybrid SMD and through-hole designs, source high-quality components, and use a meticulous process to ensure that each pedal meets its exacting standards. Be sure to head over to their website for more info and pedals, and be sure to visit our YouTube channel for our demo – cheers!!
