March 2023 marked the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest albums ever recorded – Pink Floyd’s masterpiece ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’. The DevTech Audio ‘DSOTM’ is an homage to David Gilmour’s fuzz tones from early Floyd, but specifically from this album. The ‘DSOTM’ is a true bypass fuzz pedal that expands from the silicon Fuzz Face circuit origins. It includes controls to tailor and dime in the fuzz tone you want, with the guitar and amp that you are using.
Fuzz face circuits were notorious for having impedance issues, resulting in not playing well with other pedals, like buffers and wahs. The DSOTM was designed with an extra input stage to resolve this problem, thus making it much more usable with other effects. The DSOTM pedal is even capable of warm overdrive and distortion sounds, along with all out face melting fuzz. All this with a stunning slow rate colour changing LED to represent the Dark Side album cover.
The Filter and Body controls provide a nice EQ, and Boost sets the gain of the input stage. When this is fully clockwise, the ‘DSOTM’ will be more aggressive and have more gain; turned lower, there will be a more tame response. All the parameters present in the DSOTM Vintage Fuzz are highly interactive, making this pedal a fuzz lover’s dream effect. Gilmour-ish tones are easily achievable, but there’s a LOT more going on here. Thanks to the crew at DevTech Audio for sending me this amazing pedal all the way from Australia – be sure to check out their website, and don’t miss our demo video, too…Cheers!!
