I am always excited when Third Man does a collaboration with another effects company, and today’s pedal teams them up with one of our favorites. The Troika Delay is a multi-function delay pedal they have created with JHS Pedals and, of course, Mr. Jack White. Bringing a versatility not often seen in the realm of delay (or any other, really) pedals, this big beefcake lets you use delay with your favorite guitar and effects AND with microphones on your favorite amp or cabinet, as well as with vocals. Great in the studio or live setting, there’s a lot to explore with this one…
The Troika Delay comes to you from the thundering minds of JHS Pedals and Third Man Hardware like a chariot over the Russian tundra. This is a multi-purpose, studio-grade delay device like you’ve never seen before. Jack White loves using delay pedals on his voice, but the process can cause lots of problems, including noise, volume drops, and loss of clarity. When Jack brought this idea to Josh, he and JHS immediately gave it the same care and attention they gave to their Colour Box and the Pulp N Peel units.
The Troika is more than a pedal. It’s a pro-audio studio device designed to work with microphones, guitars, or any instrument you want to use. With that in mind, it’s equipped it with both XLR and ¼” Inputs and Outputs. Utilizing a hi-grade Lundahl transformer on the mic input, and a secondary output transformer, this is like no delay you’ve seen before. It works great with other effects and is perfect for desktop and professional recording studios as well as on stage in front of thousands of people. If you want to use a delay that’s different from everything else on the market, look no further!
Trifecta of Special Features:
– Microphone preamp with adjustable gain control from +20dB to +80dB
– Passes +48V of phantom power (does not provide phantom power)
– 80ms to 1 second delay time with internally selectable trails
Third Man and JHS designed the Troika with sliders like a small mixing console to give Jack White (and now, all of us) easy, real-time control of the unit in a live setting. The bypass switch is above the sliders to keep it out of the way of on-the-fly adjusting.
Not your ordinary delay unit, the Troika Delay brings something for everyone to table. I had so much fun experimenting with this unit, and while there’s a lot to uncover, the simple control layout makes it a cinch to dial in a great tone in mere seconds. In our demo below, we investigate the different inputs and outputs, play with a Korg Monotribe, mic up a classic Fender amp and more – be sure to visit our YouTube channel for the full demo! This is a pretty limited release, so head on over to the Third Man website to snag one for yourself before they’re all gone…GOOD LUCK!!
