It’s always a blast when pedals from a company that’s new to me arrive at the shop for the first time. There are so many pedal companies out there, I love seeing how each one thinks and conceives new ideas and creates new gear for the world to enjoy. Randy at Enduring Audio has got all of this down to a science, apparently, and I’m stoked to bring you all the first pedal from his lineup today: please help we welcome the Bad Luck Vintage Overdrive!!
Inspired by a classic super yellow overdrive, the Enduring Audio Bad Luck offers more of everything that makes the original special. This effect uses LEDs for clipping instead of the original’s silicon diodes, this increases output and creates a thicker overdrive. The ability to focus and tighten an already cooking amp is still there, but with additional volume and gain. With the additional gain Bad Luck ranges from a colored clean boost all the way up to a fuzzy overdrive. Don’t be afraid to turn everything to 10, this is supposed to be fun!
The Presence and Tone controls offer two different ways to shape the high frequency response. The Tone control works like a typical overdrive tone control, increasing brightness when turned up. The Presence control works more like an amps presence control, adding both sparkle and gain when turned up. Lower settings will give you classic mid range focus. Low end has been increased making Bad Luck killer on bass as well. The Pres knob adds sparkle and gain when turned up, and Bad Luck features true bypass switching as well.
I love the versatility coming out of the Bad Luck Vintage Overdrive – it does the classic drive thing really well, but it can also be so much more. A boost, an edge-of-breakup wizard, a crunchy disaster, a killer fuzz, a wild distortion…the list goes on and on. It’s hard to pack this much into a 4-knob pedal, and Enduring Audio has done it seemingly with ease. Be sure to head to their website for more info and to order some pedals, and don’t forget about our demo video on YouTube – cheers!!
