It’s been a minute since we had a pedal in from Browne Amplification, but today’s pedal is a fantastic return to an amazing company. The ALKENE Nashville Overdrive brings a certain, specific sound to the table, pushing your amp and driving your tone with some nice options onboard. An instant classic, this tan beauty is sure to turn some heads and awaken the sleeping beast within any setup or rig…
Inspired by the classic “Nashville” overdrives found on the pedalboards of session greats from Tim Pierce to Jerry McPherson, the ALKENE takes that familiar, organic feel and pushes it further. At its core, ALKENE combines musical clipping with gentle, amp-like compression—but with more flexibility and control than ever before. Browne Amps carefully lowered the overall gain range to make every part of the sweep usable, restored key mid frequencies so it isn’t overly scooped, and tightened the low end for clarity and punch. The result is an overdrive that adds the right amount of low-mid “beef” without ever getting muddy, while remaining incredibly touch-responsive.
ALKENE excels at crunchy rhythm tones that retain chord clarity, while still delivering singing, expressive lead tones when pushed. You can expand on the original circuit with two internal switches and one external clipping switch, giving you meaningful tonal options without overcomplicating things. There’s also a The More Clip switch inside, which engages an alternate set of hard clipping diodes, adding extra bite, aggression, and gain.
I love all the options that are available in the ALKENE Nashville Overdrive – you truly can dial in the *perfect* tone you’ve been chasing for years. If you’ve ever experienced the frustration of backline amps that sound thin, stiff, or uninspiring, this is the cure for all that ails you. Thanks so much to Browne Amplification to send this beautiful creation my way – check out their website for ordering and more info, and stay tuned for another powerful pedal from these guys coming soon…cheers!!
