I loved the roller aspect of the Roto-Echo Delay I checked out last fall, and was hoping the crew at Black Mountain would be releasing more pedals that incorporated that same design. Well, my wish came true, as they’re back with the Expression Pedal, another roller-esque creation that paors with just about any pedal on the market (that has expression capabilities, of course). I had a blast using a couple of my favorite effects to test this out, let’s see what this one is all about!
The Black Mountain Expression is a mini expression pedal that’s small, portable, half the size of a traditional expression pedal. Compatible with almost every pedal on the market, it lets you unlock next‑level creativity, with the wheel enabling swift movement with superb precision. Switchable 25K/10K impedance means it can work with Strymon, Eventide, Boss, Line 6, TC Electronic, Electro-Harmonix, Kemper, Fractal Audio, Headrush, Neural DSP, Zoom, Roland, DigiTech, Source Audio, MXR, Fender, Red Panda, EarthQuaker Devices, JHS, Wampler, and just about any pedal with an expression input.
This pedal has two independent 1/4″ expression outputs, so you can control two devices at the same time. Side A is a fixed 25K TRS output, and Side B is a 10K output with a TRS/TS toggle to match different devices. It features two 1 million-cycle potentiometers, ensuring long-lasting performance. The enclosure is built to endure hundreds of pounds of pressure, allowing players to confidently put their full body weight on the wheel without any issues.
For the demo, I chose the Meris Polymoon and the Mantic Proverb, both extremely different effects, but each one being bale to use an Expression pedal nonetheless. With the Polymoon, you can smoothly blend between two different settings, with ALL of the knobs, if you’d like, while the Proverb Exp lets you control the intensity of the Swell, or the feedback & decay length of the reverb effect. Head to our YouTube channel for the full demo, and be sure to visit the Black Mountain site for more info on this, their other roller pedals, picks, slides, capos and more – cheers!!
