I love when a new device from our friends at NUX shows up on the doorstep, and after last month’s Dual Loop Stereo pedal, I was looking forward to their next big box creation. Well, it came in the form of the Amp Academy Stomp Compact Amp Modeler, a big-sounding, options-laden beast of an effect that will have you experimenting for weeks, months, years even. Lots to dig into here, let’s see what it’s all about…

The Amp Academy Stomp is an end-to-end tone-shaping Amp Simulator, and independent L/R CYBER IR™ Engine, ushering in a milestone evolution for NUX. It features their iconic TS/AC-4K Amp Modeling (White-box Physical Modeling algorithm), which is twice as complex found in previous versions, along with a new hardware platform with 2 DSPs, one to handle all the effects, and the other to handle the amp modeling algorithm. NUX even split Amp Modeling as separated preamp and power amp simulation, meaning you can choose different power tubes to drive the creative sound.

The Amp Academy Stomp uses premium A/D & D/A converters and analog circuits to achieve a clear sound with low noise levels. Brand New Cyber IR™ Technology is a real Impulse Response reproduction with a premium algorithm that offers Microphone, Position, and Distance adjustments. 1/4″ Balanced TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) outputs reduce noise interference and transmit signals over long distances. Deep dive into the global memnus, and you can adjust the Global EQ, MIDI, access the tuner, configure the Looper, move audio blocks and much, much more.

Use the USB-C port for 24-bit / 48 kHz USB AUDIO, USB MIDI (PC Editor), firmware updates, and the NBT-1 Bluetooth Module with APP control, and use the Amp Academy Stomp editor (PC), or Amp Academy Stomp APP, to personalize your amp modeling experience.
