Summer School Electronics Double Major Dual Transparent Overdrive Boost

Ever since the first pedal from Summer School Electronics arrived on my doorstep way back in 2022, I’m always in a state of anticipation to see what Mark is going to come up with next. Today, I’m excited to bring you his latest creation, the massive Double Major Dual Transparent Overdrive Boost. Taking inspiration from a certain almost unobtainable, mystical, horse-themed gem from the 1990’s, this one gives you a slight boost, a massive wall of distortion, and anything/everything in between…

The Double Major Dual Transparent Overdrive Boost is a re-imagination of one of the most famous pedals of the last 30 years. It features a double circuit that allows you to use them individually or stacked. This transparent dual drive circuit utilizes mythical “magic germanium diodes” with selectable soft or hard clipping. If the aesthetics don’t already give you a hint as to the sounds you might be able to squeeze out of this one, you’ll know as soon as you turn it on.

The Double Major lets you mix n’ match the 2 channels in any way you deem fit – have a drive and a boost in either order, have one channel with hard clipping and one with soft, or have 2 drives that are meant to be stacked together! Personally, I like having the left side a little cleaner, but not clean, more on the verge of dirty breakup, while the right side goes into hard clipping mode, and the Gain gets cranked, for a lovely, crisp, elegant distorted tone. Find two sounds you like, turn ’em both on at the same time, adjust the volume levels and you’re good to go!

Summer School Electronics was founded by school teacher/musician Mark Turley during the 2020 shutdown. Incorporating School themes and bringing a tun aesthetic to pedalboards worldwide, Summer School Electronics has quickly grown in the boutique pedal market, offering quality pedals with a character all their own. The graphics on this one are just hilarious, I love how it plays into the ridiculousness of the hype surrounding the original units, and it just looks perfect. Not to mention how it sounds…I dig the 2-channels-on approach, but love that you can dial it back to just add flavor to your original tone if needed.
