Red House Electronics Mint DriveToday’s guest review comes to us from Sean G. – find him on Instagram (@TheNoiseReel), Twitter (@TheNoiseReel) and Facebook (The Noise Reel).

It’s bright or it’s dark. The name makes me think of mint cotton candy at a circus. So I wanted to make a demo in a fast, chromatic circus fashion. Do you know how hard it is to find elephants in midtown Manhattan?

Simple controls for a low to medium gain in the Mint Drive from Red House Electronics. Three knobs: volume, gain and shape. Soft-touch switch and true bypass. This is a drive built to cut through and that’s exactly how I’ve been using it.

On the Strat I can switch to the bridge pickup and roll the Mint Drive’s Shape control back to help thicken up a bright pickup. Switch back to the neck pickup and roll Shape up again for a nice low to medium gain drive with sparkle. Mint Drive reminds me of a Bluesbreaker in it’s beautiful clean tones.

I use the Mint Drive when I need to cut through. When I need every note in a chord to be heard. I hear it as a nice tone shaping option with a great drive section. So if you’re looking for a low to medium tone shape drive, check out the Mint Drive…

…and buy a ticket the next time the circus is in town.
