Lauren Audio Spitfire Overdrive DistortionRight away, today’s featured pedal jumps out at you: big box, crazy, futuristic graphics and knobs the size of small cars…well, not really, but it’s a bold-looking effect, for sure. Once you plug in the Spitfire Overdrive Distortion from Lauren Audio, you realize all of your excitement and fear was not for nothing, as gorgeous dirt tones drip and ooze from your amplifier. Created by Lauren Audio in sunny Southern California, this beast roars and rips through it’s many options and settings, giving us (another) new reason to hole up in our houses and play guitar for hours on end.

On to the pedal itself: the Spitfire is a multi-clipping overdrive that’s equipped with 6 discrete clipping stages. Using the knob on the far right of the pedal, you are able to select from Clean, Smooth, Germanium, Warm, Dynamic and Mid-Heavy modes, each boasting its own personal characteristics and tonal attributes. A lone toggle switch gives you access to two different filter modes for more versatility, and the usual Volume, Tone and Gain parameters fit perfectly into the control section lineup.

Another fun and fairly unusual things about the Spitfire is that its very DIY-friendly. Two of the internal clipping stages and one of the filters are built on sockets, meaning that you can take out and experiment with your own components, to truly (and easily) customize the sound to your exacting specifications. Using high-grade components, from Neutrik Jacks, Aplha Pots, WIMA/Nichicon Capacitors and more, the Spitfire is built to withstand any abuse you can throw at it, for years of overdriven bliss.

Adding in the ability to swap out some components really sets this one apart from so many others, something that’s becoming more and more necessary in such an overcrowded market. We can’t wait to see what the crew at Lauren Audio has up next for us all – check out their website for more info, and stay tuned for more demos and reviews of their gear coming soon!
