Pink Floyd. I mean, c’mon, what else do you have to say? David Gilmour is well-known for one of the greatest all-around tones on the planet, especially in the fuzz/soloing department, and we’re going to take a look at a pedal that aims to recreate that today. The aptly-named Floyd Fuzz graces us with its presence, coming from Tru-Fi Pedals in Falmouth, Maine (the next fuzz capital of the world, apparently). With FIVE different versions that can be ordered upon request, a simple control section and sustaining fuzz for days, this one was an absolute pleasure to plug in and play…
We were sent the Ram’s Head version of the Floyd Fuzz, which suits us just fine (other versions include Tri-Angle, Creamy Dreamer, Red Army and Russian). This version is classic 70’s fuzz distortion, which is pretty much our all-time favorite, so it worked out just perfect for us. The Volume control pushes any tube amp into fuzz-filled glory, with the Tone knob featuring a wide array of lows and highs to compliment any setup. Sustain sets your gain, and again boasts a well-rounded spectrum of sonic options to choose from, working with the Volume knob to do a mild boost, smooth distortion or all-out, balls to the wall fuzz glory.
On top of selecting which version of the Floyd Fuzz you want to HEAR, you can also choose from numerous color options as well, making your pedal both sonically and aesthetically catered to your specs, which doesn’t happen all too often in the world of effects. Built like a big old tank and ready to withstand some foot-stomping abuse, the Floyds are gonna last you years and years, if not a couple of lifetimes.
