Zander Circuitry Avalanche Harmonic Clipping TrifectaAfter the powerhouse of a pedal we witnessed last month in the American Geek from Zander Circuitry, we couldn’t wait to delve into their next offering, a rare THREE-IN-ONE pedal that has more options than you’ll know what to do with. The Avalanche is described as a “Harmonic Clipping Trifecta,” and it certainly gives you three completely different sounds to concoct your next sonic meal with. Fuzz, Boost, Overdrive, even Distortion….this pedal checks them all off the list.

Three separate footswitches activate the three differing modes on the Avalanche – let’s start with the Fuzz. It features a Level knob, which works as a volume/gain combo kinda thing, along with a 3-position Fat toggle switch. This one offers you a couple different variations of bass boost, to suit your pickup and amp setup perfectly. This mode is a high-gain fuzz that is ideal for down tuned, stoner-y, doom rock riffs and heavy, sustained chords, and will get extra wicked when combined with either (or both) of the other two channels.

On the other end, Crunch is a low-to-mid gain overdrive, and can double as a boost as well. The lone toggle here is a Bright switch, giving you some variation in treble cutting, again to work with your instrument/amplifier setup. This mode adds sparkle to your original signal, beefs up any amp and gets you into sweet, cranked Tweed territory with a slow turn of the Level knob.

Finally, we’ve got the Drive channel in the middle. Here, you have more gain than the Crunch channel, with a flatter EQ response and more saturated sounds. This channel is awesome for down tuned music as well, getting nice and heavy without muddying up your original signal. Combined with the Crunch channel gets into almost Distorted-type levels, grabbing, biting and clawing its way into any eardrums that can handle its output. Plus, there are 2 Clip toggles, which let you choose from a number of combinations of Germanium, Silicon or No diodes, for numerous interfacing action.

Zander Circuitry LogoUse them individually, use them together, come up with new combinations….the choices here are seemingly endless. All the dirt you could want or need is packaged nicely into this bright crimson enclosure, and you’ll have no time turning you amp into a crushing auditory machine when you turn on the Avalanche and let’er rip. Thanks to the crew at Zander Circuitry for another killer pedal – they’ve got a bunch more in their lineup, so stay tuned for more reviews right here, go visit their website and don’t forget to check out our demo below. Cheers!
