Sometimes, in certain pedalboard real estate situations, the smaller the pedal the better. Today’s featured piece of gear will have no problem fitting into any musical tetris-type situation, as it is so small it can be placed virtually anywhere with a perfect fit. The Bluesy Overdrive is another gem from our friends at CNZ Audio, and, while tiny, packs a huge sound and excellent amp-enhancing tone. Let’s take a look at this little beauty, shall we?
As you can see, the control section is fairly straightforward, but it’s about all you need for an effect like this. Volume, Tone and Gain do exactly what you’d expect, adding differing levels of tone and dirt into your signal, depending on your settings. The Bluesy seeks to emulate the amplified sounds of the earliest electric blues players, whose amps had a special kind of mojo that can sometimes be difficult to recreate. There’s a two-way toggle switch present as well, letting you choose from Normal and Fat modes, ranging in tonal structure from mild to thick overdriven sounds.
While nothing too crazy or outside of the box here, the Bluesy Overdrive does just what you’d think it would, and well, especially when compared with other pedals in its extremely affordable price range. Able to give a dirty boost, mild crunch or full-on power punch to any amplifier (tube amps sound killer), it not only fits on the smallest of boards, but doesn’t make you sacrifice any tone or EQ in the process.
