Keeley Electronics Dark Side Fuzz Delay Modulation

There’s no shortage of incredible effects pouring out of the Keeley Electronics office, and with each one, we’re taken aback a bit by the sheer ingenuity and creativity they possess, especially the Workstation Series. Looking at another one of those today, we’re excited to bring you the Dark Side, a Fuzz Delay Phaser Vibe Flanger extravaganza, with tasty fuzz tones and all the modulation you can handle. Conjuring up images of Gilmour, Jimi, Zappa and more, this is a rocket ship back to the golden age of guitar, but with an adventurous modern twist.

The Fuzz section of this powerhouse is a big fuzz style distortion based on a 1977 op-amp style, featuring more transparency and sustain, all while retaining the essence of your guitar. Working well with single coils and humbuckers alike, there are controls for Level (output), Filter (tone) and Fuzz (distortion). A small toggle switch lets you choose between three different EQs as well – Flat, Full or Scoop, providing unique voices to complement your fuzzy sounds.

The Delay portion of the Dark Side boasts a multi-head tape delay, with 12 different syncopated delays. These are extremely rhythmic and have the tonal quality of the old spinning drum tape delays, with that warmth we all know and love. The Modulation section features Flanger, Rotary Speaker Cabinet, U-Vibe, and Phaser. Blending between the “Electric Lady” Flanger and a Les-Rotary cabinet, you can find that perfect blend between a vintage sounding opto-coupler based U-Vibe and the little orange phaser you can’t escape.

An Expression input lets you control the Rate/Feedback via a 1/4″ TRS cable, opening up even more on-the-fly musical possibilities. You can even choose the order in which the effects go: Fuzz before Modulation/Delay, or vice versa. With an internal hand-built board containing analog fuzz and a high quality 24-bit DSP engine, the Dark Side is the result of studying and analyzing decades worth of gear, to give you not only the original tones, but an endless range of in-between sounds you can’t get elsewhere. For a glimpse into this supersonic adventure, please check out our demo below, and, as always, go see the multitude of effects that will blow your ming over on the Keeley Electronics website. Atom Heart Mother, indeed.
