After we had the opportunity to check out the first of two new releases from Dwarfcraft Devices last month, we couldn’t wait to see what the second one was all about. While the Treeverb is a reverb pedal with different modes, the Body Mod is three separate effects in one, combining Chorus, Flange and Octave tones for a plethora of exciting and experimental musical exploration. Plus, since it’s coming from Dwarfcraft, you know there’s going to be a bit of wackiness involved, especially in a modulation pedal like this one.
The Chorus mode is up first on the Body Mod, and features the usual Rate and Depth controls for a wide range of chorus-y chime. The Flux control adds a different element into each mode on the Body Mod, and here, an upper octave effect gets introduced to your signal, with the pitches spiraling up and out of range the more to crank this knob. Flange mode is rich and deep, with the Rate and Depth controls acting as they do in Chorus mode, while the Flux knob is a basic resonance dial. Finally, the Octave mode gets really fun, as the Rate and Depth knobs work as controls for parallel sub octave and upper octave signals, with the Flux parameter filtering both.
There’s also a Mix knob that works with all modes, and will give you a full Wet/Dry blend spectrum. There are even internal trim pots for input and output control, and the top-mounted jacks make it easy to squeeze the Body Mod onto any pedalboard or rig configuration. Feature rich but easy to control and find your groove with, the Body Mod takes Dwarfcraft on their first adventure into the modulation world, as features the sonic prowess that only they know how to put on every effect they produce.
