JHS Pedals Double Barrel V4 Overdrive

We did a review of the Double Barrel Overdrive from JHS Pedals back in 2014, when we were first getting started, and have come full circle to be able to check out the newest model of this fine dual overdrive. This famous box now incorporates the newest versions of the separate pedals it houses, giving it an overall upgrade to the individual sides, as well as the whole pedal. You know what this is, you’ve probably played or owned one at one point or another, and we just want to show what the current version can do.

The left side of the Double Barrel houses their classic and best-selling Morning Glory V4 Drive, which is a low-to-mid gain transparent overdrive circuit. New here is the ability to access the “hi-gain” toggle switch, either manually or via the Red Remote input jack system that many newer JHS pedals feature. The right side is another classic, the Moonshine V2, which boasts tasty mid-heavy tones ala a famous little green screaming monster. The new Clean knob lets you blend the overdriven signal with your original dry signal, for the perfect tonal marriage.

As we said in our first review, the magic really happens when you turn both of these circuits on together. You can not only set each side to play nice with the other, and come up with some incredible overdrive sounds, but you can use the Order toggle to decide which side of the DB comes first in the signal path. This, combined with all the parameters available on each side, makes the Double Barrel a truly versatile and impressive drive effect. Cheers to JHS for another wonderful update of an already classic pedal!
