Totally Wycked Audio TWA MM-01 MiniMorph Dynamic Waveshaper

A few years back, we reviewed and demoed a pedal called the DynaMorph™, a crazy fuzz-filter-synth thing that blew our minds, from the creators over at Totally Wycked Audio (TWA) and Godlyke Distributing Inc. Recently, they’ve released another effect along the same lines, a younger brother, per se, to the DynaMorph™ – today, we’d like to explore the MM-01 MiniMorph™ Dynamic Waveshaper with you. An envelope-dependent overdrive, with bits of filter, fuzz, distortion and more locked inside, this purple beast is multi-layered, complex and an absolute powerhouse of a pedal.

The heart of the MiniMorph™ circuit is a string of full-wave rectifiers, along with two high-gain preamps set in series. The output level of the preamp is controlled by the Gain knob up top, while the diode array’s output level is set by the Drive knob. As you increase the Drive, the signal “morphs” as there are changes to the distortion’s EQ components; the Gain parameter makes the Drive control hit the rectifiers harder, producing thick harmonics, compression and a whole bunch of sustain. These two controls are the basis for the entire pedal, but there’s still much more to come.

*We’re giving this pedal away – details on our Instagram page!*

The Morph knob sets the output level of the distortion effect, and this one gets pretty wild as it is increased, depending on the settings for the two aforementioned control knobs. You can use the Dry knob to mix in your original signal with the effect, and Level (thankfully) allows you to set the output of the entire pedal itself. The MiniMorph™ also features TWA’s proprietary S3™ “Shortest Send Switching™” – a form of relay-based True Bypass switching that provides the most transparent bypass sound available. This switching also automatically reverts the pedal to bypass mode if power is lost – an essential failsafe for live gigs.

There’s even a side-access Mode switch that selects between two different overall EQ settings, for even more control over your tone. Sounds like a lot to take in, right? Well, it is, in a good way – the MiniMorph™ will take you immediately out of your comfort zone and push the very limits of your mind (as well as your amp’s speakers) to unleash a fury of sonic bliss and power we all can only dream of. Hats off to Hats off to Kevin and the Godlyke/TWA teams for making this all happen, and for another fun, exciting and definitely NOT run-of-the-mill drive pedal. Check out the demo we put together below, and please feel free to subscribe to our YouTube channel while you’re there as well!
