Meris Polymoon Super-Modulated Delay

If we had to pick a desert island effect genre, there would be only one answer: DELAY. Spanning back decades and inspiring and enticing players throughout the years, delay and echo pedals are some of the funnest, creativity-building effects out there. Today’s pedal, however, takes everything you thought you knew about delay and tosses it inside-out, upside-down and round and round we go. The Polymoon from Meris is a modulated delay, to put it mildly, producing gorgeous sonic reflections and wild, soaring modulation that rivals any pedal in the business.

Time, Feedback and Mix are fairly typical controls on a delay pedal, but, as with all Meris creations, there are hidden controls in each of these. Holding down the ALT button allows you to adjust the alternate parameters: Early Modulation (triangle waveform modulation of the early delay taps) via Time; Feedback Filter (filter in the feedback path) via Feedback; Delay Level (gain of the Wet signal, up to -12dB) via Mix. This treasure of hidden controls doesn’t stop here, either, but rather continues with the rest of the knobs and buttons.

Multiply sets the number of delay taps added to the output, with its ALT function being Late Modulation (triangle waveform modulation of the later delay taps). Dimension smears and sustains the delay tap reflection, with Dynamic Flanger Mode (minimum for Envelope Down, noon for Envelope Up, and maximum for LFO) as its hidden gem. The Sync Phase switch lets you select the phaser mode, choosing from Slow, Sync or Slow + Sync, which each produce a different overall tone and style.

The Tap footswitch sets the time for the delay and the synchronized phaser, and also features an alternate function, Dotted Eighth Note, which changes the current tempo from quarter notes to dotted eighth notes. If you hold this switch down, you can engage Half Speed Delay, cutting the tempo down in an instant. Even the Bypass switch has a secret to hide – its alternate function adds negative feedback to the Dynamic Flanger, furthering the broad range of sounds to experiment with.

With 1200ms of delay time, a ton of modulation and LFO options, an adjustable EQ filter, Stereo ins and outs, MIDI capabilities and more, the Polymoon is one of the most powerful and awe-inspiring pieces of gear to come out….ever. Once again showing that they have a firm grasp on what the effects pedal community is after, Meris knocks it straight out of the park with one of the coolest, most unique and innovative delays we’ve ever seen (and we’ve seen a LOT around here). For a small taste of the sounds and functions of the Polymoon, check out our demo video below – this one is an experimenter’s dream, however, and is best tested in your home, office, studio, on stage or anywhere else you can find to sit down and enjoy. So….ENJOY!
