Night Owl Industries Q the EQ

We are always honored when pedal companies keep coming back to us for more reviews and demos, and that is certainly the case with our friends at Night Owl Industries. Having already checked out their Oscar and Edison Preamps, we were stoked to see what they could come up with next. A true original in a familiar enclosure, Q the EQ is an awesome tone-shaper laid right at your feet. Featuring three controls and a massive internal voltage enhancer, this is one unique and exquisite effect.

As you’ll immediately notice, Q the EQ is housed in what is traditionally viewed as a Wah pedal enclosure. While you can adjust the pedal with your foot, the name itself should clue you in to the fact that this is NOT a wah, but an EQ pedal. The foot sweep controlled by your foot is responsible for the Midrange – heel position = cut mids; toe position = boosted mids. There are a wide range of sounds available here as well, depending on where you place your foot and the position you rest in.

There are additional Bass and Treble controls on either side of Q the EQ, too, letting you really dial in your main EQ sound, then adjust it as needed via the Mids sweep. Max out the Bass and Treble controls for a Mid Scoop type of tone, or dial them back for a more volume-based swell as you slowly push it forward. The Internal Voltage Tripler is the same found in Night Owl’s Edison Preamp, which increases the headroom and allows you to put Q the EQ after any other pedals that are in your signal chain, letting you truly shape your overall tone, and not just your dry signal.

With each unit drilled, machined, finished, wired and assembled in Greenwood Lake, NY, the quality and craftsmanship really shine through in Q the EQ, as it they do with the entire Night Owl lineup. Something fun and adventurous for all you players needing a bit of extra tweakability in your rig, this wah-shaped beast sculpts and shapes your tone like no other. Another job well done by the crew at Night Owl Industries – be sure to check out their website, our reviews of their other pedals AND, of course, our demo right below!
