Diamond Pedals BEQ-2 Boost EQ

“Eh, it’s just a Boost pedal, right?” Wrong. Boost pedals can absolutely be the key ingredient to any rig, and we’ve got one today that will prove just that. The new BEQ-2 from Diamond Pedals is a Boost-EQ that’s simple yet versatile. Boasting just a couple of controls, this seemingly basic effect will transform your sound, and alter the way you see and use your overall setup as well. Let’s give it a go!

The Clean Boost portion of the BEQ-2 is controlled by one Gain knob, making it a cinch to get your volume right where you need it. With a range going from -6dB up to about +15dB, there’s a wide spectrum of choices enabling that perfect, dialed-in tone to be found. Plus, if you put it in front of a tube amp, you’ll get that naturally occurring break-up distortion on the front end, due to the increased level of input, to make your amp just downright sing. Keep it clean or get it a little bit dirty, the choice is all up to you.

The EQ portion of this pedal features Tilt and Mids knobs, along with one lone toggle switch. Tilt provides a spectral tilt of the BEQ-2’s frequency response pivoted around a fixed point in the upper midrange. Set at noon, the frequency is flat – turn to the left and you’ll get a darker response; turn to the right and everything brightens up instantly. The Mids knob provides a +/-10dB boost/cut in the upper-to-midrange frequencies, and it works in conjunction with the Tilt control for a vast array of differing combinations and tonal possibilities. The toggle switch inserts or removes the EQ section completely from the signal path, if you so desire.

Anyone can just plug in a distortion pedal and attempt to start shredding away, but for those who really chase the perfect tone, EQ and Boost pedals are must-haves in any signal path. Having these two effects in one extremely pedalboard-friendly enclosure (smaller than it’s big brother, the BEQ-1) is even better, and when it comes from a company as reliable and well-respected as Diamond Pedals, you know you’re in good hands. Thanks to Aimish and the Diamnd crew for letting us put this guy through the ringer – check out our demo video below to hear how it can sculpt and change your sound for the better, and keep an eye out on the Diamond Pedals’ website for these to become available real soon!
