Boss DD-200 Digital Delay

We all know Boss has been one of the pioneers, innovators and leaders in the world of effects pedals for decades now, and their lineup of delay effects are second to none. Constantly seeking to improve, however, they have now bestowed upon us their newest echo iteration, one that aims to give you a complete delay package in one simple enclosure, once and for all. The DD-200 is a compact machine that absolutely oozes delay, with everything from simple slap back to warm analog to out-of-this-earth space-exploration type of stuff, and a whole slew in between. This is one delay we were really looking forward to, and folks, it did NOT disappoint.

It would take quite a while to list and go over everything that the DD-200 covers, so we’re going to give you a slimmed-down version and let our demo try and speak for the pedal itself. Bringing in tones and sounds from the beloved DD-500 and placing them into a smaller, more pedalboard-friendly enclosure, the DD-200 offers up 12 different modes from which to choose and experiment with. If you can’t find a useable function from the Standard, Analog, Tape, Drum, Shimmer, Tera Echo, Pad Echo, Pattern, Lo-Fi, Dual, Reverse or Ducking modes, then you should probably just put the guitar down and slowly walk away. The top row of Time, Feedback and Effect Level controls do just what you’d expect, setting your delay time, number of repeats and the blend of your dry signal with the delay effects.

The Param knob gives you control over different parameters, depending on what mode you’re in. Here, you cover such things as delay attack, distortion amount, sound character, playback head combinations and much, much more. Tone alters the brightness or darkness of the repeats, depending on what you need, and Mod Depth adds in as much or as little modulation to the repeats as you see fit. The Tap Division indicator lets you select different combinations of dotted half-note, half-note, dotted quarter note, quarter note, half-note triplet, dotted eighth note, eighth-note triplet, quarter-note triplet and eighth note, producing some wild, wacky and adventurous time-infused effects exploration.

The DD-200 also gives you access to 4 Memories (presets), which can be selected via a button OR holding down the Memory/Tap switch to enter Memory mode. There’s even a looper mode you can enter hands-free by holding down BOTH footswitches, giving you a quick but useful 60 seconds of recording time to do with what you will. You can assign external pedals to control different functions and parameters, connect the unit via MIDI to switch Memories, perform updates via USB and your desktop and run your entire Stereo rig right through this guy. In short, you’re gonna love it, as it provides almost everything you can think a delay pedal can provide. More info is available on the Boss website, and our long-but-awesome demo below will give you a glimpse into some of the sounds and functions available on this excellent delay effect.
