68 Pedals King of Clone Boost Overdrive Distortion

Through our Klone Wars videos on YouTube, we pit two Klones against each other and see which one sounds best (in everyone’s vastly different opinion, of course), but what about some other effects that are getting cloned around the world? One of the most sought-after effects, and one that has a years-long wait list, is the King of Tone from Analogman. A dual channel Boost/Drive/Distortion, it has become one of the most popular pedals around. But, let’s say you don’t have years to wait or a huge budget, like many of us – where do you go? How about over to 68 Pedals and their King of Clone…

This purple monster sports the same dual channel layout, with Volume, Tone and Drive knobs on each side, as the King of Tone. Also inside are four dipswitches, which let you choose the output for the Yellow and Red sides (named for their corresponding LEDs). Make one side clean and one side overdrive, make one overdrive and one distortion – it’s all up to you, and what you need the pedal to do for your particular rig and sound.

There are also internal pots to adjust the gain of each side, further allowing you to experiment and find the sound you’re after. It comes from China, but this thing is really built well, solid enclosure that looks like it will take a beating and keep on rockin’. The wiring looks really clean and well done, too, and with a price point that’s great for any budget, you’re getting an incredible deal all-around on a wonderful effect.

Still not convinced? Well then, why don’t you have a look-see at our demo video below, then decide for yourself. We go through a lot of different settings, and even switch the dip switch modes halfway through, so be sure to stick around until the end. Cheers to 68 Pedals on a marvelous recreation of a classic – we’ve got another of their pedals coming up shortly, so stay tuned!
