TC Electronic Flashback 2 X4 Delay

TC Electronic has been putting out some amazing delay effects for decades, ever since the TC2290 was released in 1985. Since then, they’ve enjoyed much success with the likes of the Nova Delay, Flashback, numerous rack units and more. Their latest delay endeavor is the Flashback 2 x4 Delay, one of the most option-filled mega delay pedals we’ve ever come across. Utilizing their unique TonePrint preset system, numerous renditions of famous vintage effects, tap tempo, MIDI and more, this powerhouse pedal represents the next step in the evolution of this company’s delay legacy.

The Flashback 2 x4 comes roaring out of the gate with the new Crystal algorithm, along with the excellent-sounding Analog and Tape algorithms as well. There are 10 delay modes total, along with SIX preset slots, where you can store 6 presets per switch, accessible via the Bank 1/2 switch. The Looper mode gives you access to FORTY seconds of loop time, turning the 3 delay switches and the Tap Tempo switch into Record, Play/Pause, Play Once and Undo/Redo functions, for extremely creative control over your loops.

TC’s MASH technology is once again present, letting you use the pressure of your foot to slowly, seamlessly toggle between delay settings. The Stereo capabilities open up the sonic possibilities here as well, creating vast, wide open soundscapes that blanket you in washes of tone and echo. There’s MIDI functionality, USB access to store more presets and 11 subdivision settings, for a wealth of rhythmic delay opportunities.

As with most pedals of this nature, you need to see, or at least hear, it in action, so we decided to come up with a demo video (see below) to show off some of the sights and sounds of this marvelous machine. Only a fraction of what it’s capable of, mind you, there’s some really fun stuff going on here, and is one that you won’t want to get away from for weeks or months at a time…if you have that kind of time.
