Big Muff. You know the name, you know the pedals, you know (some of) the records that they have appeared on. Thankfully, since the originals are fairly rare and expensive when you can find them, there are many companies who produce their individual takes on these excellent fuzz/distortions, and we’ve got a new member of the group to tell you about today. Siren Pedals, out of Nashville, TN, brings another take on the Muff, in the form of the Midnight Train Fuzz. This one rips, are you ready??
Based on the famed Civil War Big Muff, the Midnight Train features the same three-parameter control section as the original, with an added little bonus (more on that in a minute). Volume, Tone and Fuzz (Distortion on the originals) give you more tones than you’ll be able to handle, bringing you all the Gilmour-esque sounds you’re craving, and have been for decades (depending on your age, of course). The secret weapon here is the Mids toggle switch, a much-welcomed addition to an already fantastic pedal. You get to choose from 3 modes: Stock, Low-Mid Bump and High-Mid Bump. The tonal changes these differing selections produce will peel your eyes open, punch you in the face and have you begging for more….in only the best of ways.
Fuzz effects have changed the world. The Midnight Train simply builds on that legacy. If you’re new to fuzz and distortion, what a way to start off. If you’re a seasoned vet with a pedal collection that you could trade in for a Porsche, this will just be another gem added to enhance your musical prowess.
