A few months back, we brought you the first pedal we’ve reviewed from Industrialectric, the Generator 7446 Fuzz Tremolo Ring Modulator, and it was a magnificent noise-making wonder. Eager to see what they came up with next, we were stoked when today’s pedal landed on our doorstep, for sure. The Industrialectric Actuator OD-187 Overdrive gives you an overdrive, yes, but in only the way that these guys from up in Toronto, Canada can do it.
The Actuator OD-187 was originally designed for bass, but it sounds fantastic on guitar. It’s a Medium to High-Gain Overdrive that features a rare germanium transistor, along with a slew of controls to push your drive into wonderfully noisy territory. Some of its attributes are a Clean Blend knob, High-Pass Filter (non-resonant;passive), Dual JFET Preamp (input control for the Overdrive section), a unique Contour EQ and a Saturation control (overall Gain and Signal being pushed into the transistors in the middle of the circuit), along with the usual suspects: Main Output and Overdrive Output. This is not your pappy’s overdrive pedal – the Actuator ate that thing for a snack earlier in the day.
All of these controls are tied into a Feedback network, so it’s unpredictable and adventurous at the turn of any knob. Experimentation and exploration are key here, so if you want a Tube Screamer or Klone pedal, you best look somewhere else. The Industrialectric Actuator OD-187 Overdrive is a force to be reckoned with, and will make all the other drives on your pedalboard weep in awe. We love the first couple of effects we’ve seen from Industrialectric, and can’t wait to see what else they’ve got in store.
