If you play guitar, chances are you have wanted or still do want to emulate the amazing tones of David Gilmour from Pink Floyd. Even if their music isn’t your jam, it’s hard to deny the affect he has had on the guitar as an instrument, and his tone from the 70’s is the stuff of legend. One of the main pieces of said tone was the Colorsound Power Boost, later renamed the Overdriver, which is where today’s pedal comes into play. The Vick Audio Overdrive Power Booster is a classic reproduction of this piece of Gilmour’s tonal puzzle, with a couple upgrades and additions to bring it up to modern standards.
Working with tube amps to provide a very clean and transparent overdrive at the lower gain ranges, the Overdriver can also get into high distortion/fuzz territory at higher settings. The Volume sets the output level, Drive adjusts the amount of gain in your signal and the Bass/Treble knob let you really dial in your EQ. The dynamic sound will perfectly drive any amplifier, and if you start to pair it up with other pedals, like a Rat or a Big Muff, tonal nirvana isn’t too far up away.
