Source Audio C4 Synth

Is there much more fun to be had than when you first plug into and turn on a new synth pedal? You’re right, there isn’t. We get to do it all again today, too, as we dive in and take a look at the Source Audio C4 Synth. Forged from the depths of Eurorack modular synthesizers, this one crams all the features and fun into an extremely pedalboard-friendly enclosure, but without sacrificing any tone or features. How’d they do it, you ask? Well, we’re here to tell ya…

The C4 looks fairly simple at first glance, but there’s a lot hiding under the hood with this one. Input and Mix set the input signal level and blend of the wet and dry signals, respectively, but they also hold another secret. A button up top labeled ALT allows you to enter the Alternate Parameter mode. Here, Input takes on the role of Sensitivity, adjusting how reactive the envelope filter is to the incoming signal. On the other side, Mix becomes Volume, controlling the overall master output level for the pedal. Control 1 and Control 2 set differing parameters, depending on how you’ve set your presets. These parameters range from sensitivity to tremolo to distortion to speed to depth and so on and so on – you’ll have to download and hook up your pedal to the Neuro Editor on your phone or desktop for more info on that.

The toggle switch in the center gives you access to 3 different presets….ok, it’s actually SIX! The ALT button has a second function as well, letting you switch between Preset Banks 1 and 2 (you can also do this by holding down the footswitch in bypass mode). In addition, the C4 boasts 128 MIDI accessible factory presets, 4 independent voices, 3 types of oscillators, 11 envelope followers, 25 filter effects, 14 different LFO wave shapes, 2 programmable 16-step sequencers and Stereo Ins and Outs. There’s more, but this one is a bit of a hands-on experience, and we suggest you do just that to figure out all this synth has to offer.

BUT WAIT!! Before you do that, you’ll need our guidance and pseudo-expertise to guide you through the C4 Synth once, and that comes in the form of our demo video, available below. We run through presets, change parameters, look at some functionality and, most importantly, get to hear some wicked awesome sounds. Cheers to Source Audio on an absolutely magnificent, complex but user-friendly, powerhouse of a synth pedal – it’s everything we never even knew we needed. Check out their website, our demo, any info you can find an have fun with this guy….trust us, you will.
