Analog Music Company Evil Pumpkin Synth Fuzz

Friends….today’s pedal is like no other we’ve experienced, or that you have, either. The crew at Analog Music Company took a nice, pretty, normal Boss DS-1 Distortion, threw it on Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory table and created, well, a new kind of monster. The Evil Pumpkin is really, really difficult to describe, as we’re not quite sure what most of the switches its littered with actually do. Therefore, we’ll tell you what we know, let you watch our demo and decide for yourselves.

FAIR WARNING: this pedal is NOT going to be for everyone. No need to complain if you don’t like what it does, just keep on keepin’ on….

For those of us who enjoy the quirky, the weird, the obscure and the out-of-the-box, the Evil Pumpkin is right up our sonic alley. The best way to describe what’s happening here is CHAOTIC PATCHING. Each switch (12 total) has three positions, and each one of those interacts with the positions of the Tone, Level and Distortion knobs. The circuit reacts to the pots’ resistance, so any little bit of movement on the knobs has a big effect on the overall sound. The results are killer distortion tones, blissed-out fuzz, droning, synth effects, tremolo and more.

There’s even a photoelement sensor built-in, which lets you control the output signal by adjusting the light that comes into contact with the sensor. We demonstrate this at the end of the demo, and while it might not be the most practical application here, it sure is fun to experiment with! There’s an LFO element here as well, which suddenly turns the Evil Pumpkin into a throbbing, pulsating and mutating tremolo-infused, distorted beast. Make no mistake, this one is not for the faint of heart.

Grab a notebook, sharpen your No.2 pencils and get prepared to do a little work – if you ever hope to replicate the awesome settings that you find, you’ll have to write them down. All of them. Many of them. Otherwise, they’ll just be lost in time…. The Analog Music Company Evil Pumpkin Synth Fuzz takes a classic pedal, demolishes it, puts it back together with some new pieces and makes it an entirely new musical entity, and we love it. Check out a teeny, tiny bit of what it can do below (don’t forget to subscribe, too) and, if you have the guts and the time, go find yourself one of these bad boys…
