October Audio NVMBR Drive

One knob pedals: let’s face it, they’re not usually the new releases everyone is clamoring for on the Interwebs. Not to say that they don’t serve a very important purpose – who doesn’t love a great boost to push their amp, or a killer phaser to add in some modulation to their sound? Just sayin’ that these days, the machines with all the lights and bells and whistles and bleeps and bloops seem to command the stage….until today. The crew at October Audio has come up with an intense boost/overdrive/fuzz creation, one that will change the way you turn your nose up at those “one-knob” creatures. This is the NVMBR Drive.

With just that lone knob, which controls the Drive Nuance, you’d think the NVMBR Drive would be an easy one to figure out. Well, yes and no. Great sounds coming pouring out from the get-go, and you can get your amp cranking in no time flat. But as you sit down and experiment with it, figuring out different ways to push the front end of your amp, or how to go from a light drive to wild fuzz in 1 second, the power of this pedal really becomes apparent.

Turning the dial Counterclockwise, you get increases in both Gain and Diode Clipping, resulting in a looser, more fuzzy, compressed sound. Turn it Clockwise, and the clipping comes less from the diodes and more from an overdriven silicon transistor. This produces a tighter drive, with more clarity with chords and lead runs alike. The internal gain capacitor spans a wide range of frequencies, the clipping section is asymmetrical and the pedal has been biased to be dynamic with both the input signal level AND your picking technique. Plus, it cleans up great with your guitar’s volume knob…

Adding in a just a slight volume bump and added presence to your original tone, the NVMBR Drive is complex and easy-going simultaneously. And with true bypass switching + top-mounted Neutrik jacks, it’s a high-quality build that will slide seamlessly into any rig or configuration. Cheers to the October Audio crew on making a one-knob pedal something to get really excited about – be sure to check out their website, and see/hear the NVMBR Drive in action in our demo video below/on YouTube. Have a great weekend, everyone!
