PedalFarm F-1 Classic Fuzz

The Fuzz Face is one of the most iconic fuzz, if not all-time, pedals in existence. Utilized smartly by the likes of Hendrix, Gilmour, SRV, Duane Allman and many more, it has a defining quality that has been heard on countless recordings. While the originals are not the easiest to find, or keep in perfect working order, we have pedals like today’s that allow us peasant-folk to experience the sonic sounds of the masters. The PedalFarm F-1 Classic Fuzz takes on the Fuzz Face circuit, with some additions and upgrades for today’s modern world.

Built with two BC182 transistors, or optionally, the famous BC183 transistors, all are measured and paired to provide optimal results from each device. The expanded controls allow the user to correct issues that many users have with the original circuit, while still allowing access to the original classic sound, as well as freeing up new possibilities previously unattainable. Hand-built using top quality parts and detailed craftsmanship, high-grade components are used to ensure optimal performance and consistency.

The PedalFarm F-1 Classic Fuzz has added a Bottom knob that allows you to dial in just the right amount of bottom end for your rig and sound. This makes the F-1 well suited for humbucker-equipped guitars, as well as single coils, and also opens up sounds previously unavailable from the classic FF circuit. The circuit is exactly the same as the classic original when the Bottom control is at its maximum setting.

There’s also the addition of a Bias knob, which lets the user to find exactly the sound they are looking for. Lower bias voltages yield more spitting fuzz, while higher voltages can smooth out the fuzz and create more asymmetry to the sound. The Fuzz control has been modified to provide a better balance to the fuzz range across the sweep of the knob. The lower half of the control almost puts you in overdrive territory. Plus, the Volume control has been extended to provide a louder output signal.

Due to the modifications of the fuzz and volume controls, the F-1 can be used as a boost for an over-driving amp by turning the fuzz all the way down and the volume up. It’s a wonderful and unique alternative to a tube screamer when used this way. There is even a knob on the inside that dampens the input signal, slightly cleaning up the fuzz. This is an excellent way to set the maximum gain of the pedal to your taste and application. An excellent re-imagining of a classic fuzz, the F-1 fits smoothly into any signal chain or effects pedal setup. Cheers to PedalFarm for such a wonderful effect – we’ve got more of their gear coming up here shortly, so stay tuned, but for now, be sure to check out their website!
