AMT Electronics U-2 Pangaea Brain Frame Ultima

Over the last couple of years, effects units that offer just about all the algorithms you could want or need have been popping up like crazy. Ranging from affordable to everyone to affordable for a select few, these multi-effects platforms have changed the way people construct their rigs – and how they’re using individual pedals as well. Today’s pedal, the AMT Electronics U-2 Pangaea Brain Frame Ultima, is one of these units, housed in a super-small format and employing some different technology.

Don’t let the really, really small size of the Pangaea Ultima fool you – there’s a lot going on under the hood. Using firmware and your computer, you can choose from six different sets of effects, and load them onto the pedal as needed. Each set has their own unique list of modes and parameters, and since you can set them to all interact with each other, the possibilities are endless. These firmware types are as follows:

1. IR CabSim FX – analog/digital preamp section with 3 channels: clean, low and high gain
2. Modulation FX – compressor, filter, flanger, chorus, delay and tremolo
3. IR Stereo CabSim – a powerful stereo IR impulse response cabinet simulator
4. Stereo Delay – multifunctional stereo in/out delay effect
5. Stereo Reverb – multifunctional stereo in/out reverb
6. Pre/Post FX – turns the Ultima into a pre/post effect processor

In addition to these powerful modes of operation, the U-2 Pangaea also sports a TON of other options, including Stereo Ins and Outs, an Aux In jack, headphone output and more. It’s small size (3.5″x1.75″x2.5″) makes it an easy fit onto any pedalboard, and with so many sounds available so quickly, it’s a great piece of gear to have in the studio for recording as well. We run through some presets we created and some of the functionality of the U-2 Panagaea Brain Frame Ultima in our demo below, focusing specifically on the Delay, Reverb and Modulation firmware sets, so be sure to give that a look and a listen! Cheers to AMT Electronics on somehow packing all of this stuff into a pedal that’s smaller than your telephone – enjoy, all!
