Waaaaaayyyyyy back in 2014, we were introduced to a wild phaser pedal called the Astrospurt, from some new company in Germany, by our friend Kyle Ragan. Little did we know that over the course of the next couple of years, that small company called KMA Machines would become a powerhouse in the effects building community. They also revamped the Astrospurt, a 4-Stage JFET Phaser with a HUGE spectrum of sounds, and they sent us one to check out and put through the paces.
Also branded a Junction Gate Field-Effect Phaser, the Astrospurt covers all the spacey, dizzy, wobbly sounds you could possibly want…and then some. The main focus in the the controls is Spurt, which features a phase range that goes from long and swooshy to fast and choppy, with all points in between. Emph adds elements of semi-controlled noise into the mix, being activated only when you switch on the lone toggle switch below it. Signal sets your effect level boost, Mix blends your wet and dry signals and Depth controls how deep and present the phase sound is.
Easy to use but also incredibly versatile, the Astrospurt 4-Stage JFET Phaser allows you to get lost in the warm and soft soundscapes it generates. Working great on its own, or teaming up with a great fuzz or distortion pedal, this is one phaser that covers all your modulation needs, and therefore opens up your pedalboard as well. And, although we like the look of the original Astrospurt pedal a LOT, this version looks smooth, refined and professional, something we all want out of our pedals.
