From the big box Cali76 Compressor/Limiter to the smaller Compact Cali76 to the Compact RevivalDRIVE, we’ve had the pleasure to check out some wonderful machines from Origin Effects. However, everything became completely surreal and eye-opening when we plugged today’s pedal, the MAGMA57 Amp Vibrato & Drive, into an amplifier here in the shop. Suddenly, our hearts and minds were awoken, our brain was flooded instantly with new ideas and a rush of classic tonality came pouring into our subconscious. Folks, you’re in for a gorgeous ride today…

Combining lush, shimmering vibrato with a smooth, clear overdrive tone, the MAGMA57 is inspired by legendary guitarists and renowned amp designers alike. Compiling the best aspects of the classic Magnatone® 200 Series amplifiers into one pedal, this beast ranges from warm and jazzy to swirling psychedelia, and anything you can think of in between. The true pitch-modulating vibrato conjures up classic tones of past decades, utilizing a complete valve amp-style signal path, built on the same platform as the ground-breaking RevivalDRIVE. All-analogue components have been used to recreate this unique amplifier at circuit level, complete with its sought-after vibrato effect.

Inspired by the aforementioned original Magnatone® amps, the pedal’s amp circuitry delivers complex clean and overdriven tones dripping with vintage vibe. A three-way Blend switch combines the vibrato’s wet and dry signals in different ways to deliver three distinct modulation
modes: pure Magnatone® pitch modulation, UniVibe-style phasing and a unique chorus effect, as well as a range of modern features like tap tempo, rhythmic subdivisions and effects switcher integration. Finally, the powerful Post-Drive EQ section will make sure that the MAGMA57’s stunning range of tones sound their best, whether it’s plugged into an amp, flat-response power amp, mixer or recording interface.

Using high-current, low-noise electronics, as well as high-quality buffered bypass circuitry, the MAGMA57 is everything you want or need to produce, recreate and experiment with THAT specific sound you’ve been chasing for years. Truly a step-back pedal, this one has captivated us since we opened the box it came in, and continues to do so as we explore it further. The demo below attempts to explain more functionality and show off a fraction of the sounds this pedal can create, but you really need to hear and feel it for yourself.
