AC Noises Respira Reverb Tremolo

In mid-2017, we had the chance to review and demo some dirt pedals (Vola, Esplora and Combatti) from a new company called AC Noises from Italy. These effects were quite impressive, and then they stepped up their game the following year with the release of the AMA Reverb Oscillator Bit Crusher, which we also loved. Today, we’ve got an ambient pedal of theirs that mixes two of our favorite effects, Reverb and Tremolo, together int one gorgeous-sounding enclosure.

“Respira” is an Italian verb which means “breathe” in second person imperative (tu, respira = you, breathe). This pedal allows you, your music and your audience alike to do just that. The digital shimmer Reverb comes first, providing a very deep atmospheric sound with a long/infinite decay + a dreamy character provided by other octaves sounding in addition to the one currently played by the musical instrument involved. Mix and Decay set the mood here, and help make all your troubles just drift away…

The Multimode LFO Tremolo is up next in the signal chain, consisting of 16 different wave shapes split into two sets of 8. There are 4 tremolo modes to choose from as well (Master, Harmonic, Bass and Treble), along with controls for Rate and Tone. The Symmetry knob is unique, as it lets you decide where the wave shape will intervene, and there’s even a Subdivision control with 4 different subdivisions: = x1 (1/4 note, crotchet) = x2 (1/8th, quaver) = x3 (triplet 1/8th note, triplet quaver) = x4 (1/16th note, semiquaver).

The Respira instantly conjures up sounds associated with movie soundtracks, cinematic soundscapes and atmospheric music in general, providing an outlet of creativity and exploration we just can’t get enough of. The demo below dives headfirst into all things Respira, showing of its functionality, the wide range of sonic options and, of course, some incredible sounds. Another brilliant piece of gear from our friends at AC Noises – we can’t wait to see what’s next for these guys. Cheers!

And don’t forget to Breathe….
