Alright, kiddos, we’re back with yet another mystery machine from our pal James Bowman of Against Me! The latest here is a circuit that might be familiar to a couple of you, the infamous Klon. With the look and feel of the original, with its own spin, the Bowman Audio Endeavors Bowman Overdrive crushes amps and delivers the goods, as you’d expect.
The Bowman is a direct descendent of an original Klon pedal, James’ personal one, in fact. Measuring the components from the underside of the gooped PCB, and matching them as closely as possible, he was able to get results that are pretty spot on. Gain, Tone and Output are the parameters you know and love, and this one is made with only the highest attention to detail. Using top quality components, UV-printed, silver powder-coated Gørva Design S90 enclosures and Oxblood Davies knobs, the aesthetics and the sounds give you THAT feeling, for roughly 90% LESS than what the originals are currently going for.
While the regular Klon market may have gotten slightly out of hand recently, it’s great to know that builders like James and a bunch of others are making affordable klones that still capture the energy and tone of the originals. While you won’t be able to brag about the price you paid to your friends, you will be able to tell them your killer overdrive and boost pedal WAS made by an incredible guitarist – and it sounds fantastic, if we do say so.
