It seems that Flanger is quickly becoming the effect of 2021, with a lot of new and interesting releases coming about over the last few months. We have a wonderful one today for you, too – the Hochstrasser Electronics Chemtrail Analog Flanger. This unassuming and powerful modulation device utilizes bucket brigade chips to create and modulate a short delay line, and can function as a flanger, chorus or vibrato effect. Mmmmmmmm….flanging…..
With metallic swooshes and throaty tunnel-like swirling sensations, the Chemtrail can add everything from a little wobble to your tone to full-on bending of the space-time continuum. Speed changes the rate of modulation, while Time adjusts the median delay time around which the LFO oscillates, getting shorter as the control is turned up. The Res knobs allows you to tweak the amount of feedback to emphasize the flanging, and Depth increases or decreases the size or intensity of modulation.
Two toggle switches add to the fun as well. On the left, the +/- switch inverts the polarity of the feedback/resonance circuit, to change the harmonics being emphasized. On the right is a Mode toggle – up for flanging, down for vibrato. These two give you specific sonic flavors to experiment with, and once you’re able to sit down and mix them up with the knob parameters, entirely new worlds will open up.
