Phasers are absolutely in our top tier of favorite effects on this planet, and we love a good tremolo, too. Today’s pedal mashes both of these effects into the tiniest of enclosures, while still bringing unprecedented quality and tonal bliss to the table. The Pigtronix Moon Pool Tremvelope Phaser is part of their newly released lineup of small, pedalboard-friendly pedals, and this is a hell of a way to start it off.
Bringing all the analog tones you love, the Moon Pool features a variable bias Tremolo mode and a 4-stage, VCA-based Phaser mode. While you can run these two independently, you can also run them in tandem, creating new sonic mash-ups and discovering otherworldly sounds with ease. There are Speed control knobs for each effect, along with a global Depth knob, which determines to overall wetness of the effects.
In addition, both the Tremolo and Phaser modes feature a 3-way Dyn toggle switch, which adjusts how each effect reacts in response to the dynamics of your playing, either increasing or decreasing (or not responding at all). The Sens knob determines how much signal is required to change the speed of both when the dynamics processing is turned on as well. A third 3-way toggle allows you to select Tremolo, Phaser or both at once.
Equal parts out-of-this-world and inherently musical, the Moon Pool stretches the very limits of modulation, creating wild FM tones at maximum speeds, as well as gradually evolving textures when slowed way down. The ability to mix these two effects as you choose is key to the experimentation factor here, and couldn’t put a bigger smile on our face as we twisted knobs and flipped switches.
