Free The Tone CC-1B Crunchy Chime Booster

The fabulous crew at Free The Tone have been supporting Pedal of the Day for years, and we’re always excited when they send us new gear to review and demo. Today is no exception, except that there are TWO new effects we’re bringing to you, instead of just one. The SG-1C Silky Groove Compressor + CC-1B Crunchy Chime Booster are both excellent additions to the beginning of any pedalboard, providing enhanced, equalization and punch to any signal chain. Let’s see what these two can do, and how they play with one another…

Based on the original Silky Comp, the Silky Groove Compressor inherits the former’s sound, enhancing and ease of use, but adds in an all-important Dry Mix circuit. The Attack knob sets the input signal’s strength, while Sustain varies the depth of the compression to control sustain. These both feature an easy-to-adjust gentle curve to prevent rapid changes, for smooth operation at any settings. The Silky Groove can create silky-smooth and natural compression without impairing important elements during performance such as true sound characteristics of your guitar/bass, subtle plucking and picking nuance.

As for the Crunchy Chime Booster, this new creation is a boost unit that adds in equalization functionality. The boost circuit that generates such rich higher harmonics is the result of our research on the harmonic components of vintage guitars and amplifiers, focusing on is its abundant and brilliant harmonics. The characteristics become flat when both the Treble and Bass knobs are set to the 12 o’clock position. A Mode switch boosts/cuts the frequency range provided for the equalizer’s Bass control. This works well for the lower register of a 7-string guitar or bass guitar. The Crunchy Chime greatly widens the range of sounds from your guitar or bass and increases the pleasure of playing and sound making.

Both the Silky Groove and the Crunchy Chime are implemented with Free The Tone’s original HTS (Holistic Tonal Solution) circuit as well – unlike conventional buffer circuits, the HTS circuit attains both “high sound quality” and “low noise” by performing impedance conversion while fully bringing out sound characteristics of the guitar/bass. The HTS circuit prevents degradation of guitar/bass timbre even when the effect is turned off. No need to worry about phase reversal for either one: the output signal is in the same phase as the input signal as well.

Two powerful, crisp and high-end design-integrated pedals, the SG-1C Silky Groove Compressor + CC-1B Crunchy Chime Booster bring rich harmonics and natural sound to any rig, providing an excellent base at the start of your signal chain from which to build off of. Available worldwide coming up on November 15th, these two pedals continue Free The Tone’s commitment to high quality, innovative effect design, and you can hear it in every note. Be sure to visit their website for more info on both of these, but make sure to grab a coffee and watch BOTH of our demo videos below on this fine A.M….

Oh, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN, everybody – stay safe this weekend!
