Pine-Box Customs / Mask Audio Electronics Fever Dream

As we start to wind down the wild time that has been 2021, we find ourselves fave-to-face with one of the coolest, noisiest, experimental pedals of the year. Pine-Box Customs and Mask Audio Electronics have teamed up to present the Fever Dream, a large and in charge beast of an effect that ranges from gritty harmonic tremolo to brutal fuzz to desert rock cocked wah to self-oscillating filter and beyond. If you don’t like noise, or having fun with your effects pedals, you should probably just stop reading now…

The Fever Dream has TWO inputs (more on that in a minute) and a slew of controls that allow you to stretch your sonic creativity in ways you never thought possible. You can set the harmonic content with the Gain knob, control the depth/presence of the filter with the Resonance knob and select which frequency range the filter affects via the Frequency knob. Depth and Rate control the width and speed of the modulation here, and Volume sets your output level (this one is LOUD, beware!).

The input on the side fits the included CB Microphone, and that signal is mixed with the instrument signal, for even wilder and weirder tones. The Ham knob controls the input volume from the CB mic, and once you start talking into it and twisting knobs, the rest of your day is pretty much shot, ’cause you won’t be doing anything else. Having never seen or experienced this type of configuration before, I can tell that it is GENIUS, and that it might open up a whole new realm relating to the way experimental pedals are created moving forward.

What exactly does Fever Dream sound like? you may be asking… well, that’s what our demo below is for. We hit record and let it fly, and came up with some useful (some perhaps not so much) tones that sparked our curiosity and reinvigorated our love of fuzzy, filtered noise instantly. Shout out to Pine-Box Customs and Mask Audio Electronics on a most wonderful collaborative effort – this pedal is gonna be utilized in so many ways by many different people, and we can’t wait for the results. Be sure to check out both of their websites, and don’t sleep on the demo video below, it’s a doozy!! Happy Holidays!!
