Collision Devices Nocturnal Limited Edition Delay Tremolo Reverb

One of the most talked about effects units from the last couple of years has been the Black Hole Symmetry Delay Reverb Fuzz from Collision Devices, and rightfully so. A massive multi-effect with a huge range of tones to explore, this one found its way onto pedalboards from all types of genres across the globe. In keeping with the 3-In-1 layout of that marvelous pedal, they’ve now released the Limited Edition Nocturnal Delay Tremolo Reverb, an incredible piece of blissful ambient gear that’s sure to be the talk of the town for years to come…

DUSK is a modulated delay that’s warm and inspirational, based on a vintage tape delay circuit. Mix controls the mix between Full Dry or 50% Dry / 50% Wet, while Time sets the time between each repetition, from a few ms to 1 full second. The signal quality turns to Lo-Fi when it’s pushed to long repeats, creating that classic analog sound. The Feedback knob sets the number of repetitions, going into self-oscillation very easily when the knob is past about 3:00. In the modulation section, the Modulation knob sets the amount of modulation in the delay repetitions, creating a sort of old tape effect, while Speed controls the modulation’s frequency, from 0.1 to 20 Hz.

NIGHT is the dynamic tremolo portion of the Nocturnal. Using the Sensibility knob, turn it clockwise to make the tremolo more sensitive to your attack, and use Depth to control the tremolo’s volume. Your pick attack is the key here, as the tremolo effect can be subtle when you play lightly, or heavy and pulsing as your playing gets heavier. Plus, you can add in a huge amount of shimmer and reverb to make it oscillate faster. Really fun to explore the dynamics here.

DAWN produces a shimmer reverb, complete with bright soundscapes and loose the notion of time until the sunrise. The Blend knob controls the amount of Dry/Wet signal, going to 100% full wet reverb if you desire. Reverb sets the reverberation time, with a maximum time of 15 seconds, while Shimmer coats your effect with gorgeous reverb shimmer. The Filter knob controls a digital, low pass filter that lets you make the shimmer darker or more shiny, and Colour controls a bandpass active and analog filter around 3.3 kHz, as well as the Q of the filter.

These three effects sound so so good on their own, but once you start mixing and matching them, that’s when the real magic begins. Covering all your ambient and exploratory needs in one fell swoop, the Nocturnal Delay Tremolo Reverb is a texture creator and atmospheric controller like no other. Designed in collaboration with guitarist Noli (who also did the artwork), the Nocturnal was a special release, and only 30 of these were made. If you can find one, we highly suggest grabbing it…more info on the Collision Devices website, and don’t forget to check out our demo below to hear this one in action! Happy New Year!!
