Bennett Custom Audio Weather Man Overdrive + Boost

Continuing the New Year’s rocking start, we’ve got an excellent, versatile and robust pedal for you all today. The Bennett Custom Audio Weather Man Overdrive + Boost boasts a wonderful control section, 3 different mid-range voicings and a wide range of boost-to-drive settings. Combining a versatile, dynamic, light-to-medium gain overdrive with a powerful, totally independent JFET-based clean boost, these 2 effects would make a welcome addition to any rig – but when they’re stacked together, they make magic.

Offering up 22dB of clean boost, the Boost circuit is a JFET-based design that gives a wonderful tube amp-like feel, adding a liveliness and an ease to your playing that you won’t be able to go without. Placed before the Overdrive in the signal chain, it pushes the overdrive further into distortion and gives a volume lift when the two are stacked – perfect for solos or standout moments in a song. And with its independent footswitch, you can use it on its own to push your amp however you see fit.

The Overdrive circuit is carefully tuned to give you that “just right” amount of break up, with the controls being designed to interact organically, allowing you to quickly dial in a wide palette of overdrive sounds. The Voice switch toggles between 3 different mid-range voicings (Mid-Scoop, Mid-Hump & Flat), defining the overall character of the overdrive. The Gain control will take you anywhere from really clean with minimal distortion to a thick, aggressive crunch, while the Bass and Treble knobs allow you to tailor it in for any guitar and amp. There’s a ton of volume on tap, so the overdrive can easily be used to slam the front-end of a tube amp or another pedal. Two internal DIP switches allow you to select the clipping mode of the pedal, fine-tuning the distortion and compression: hard-clipping (default), soft-clipping, or no clipping. Finally, an internal trim pot controls the presence, allowing you to fine-tune the treble response.

Working in tandem or as single entities, the Overdrive and Boost sections of the Weather Man sound truly phenomenal. With such a wide array of options with which to explore, the tones you can coax out of this gem are limitless, adding punch and overall tonal glory to your rig. A perfect piece to start off your pedalboard, the Weather Man has got your boost and dirt needs covered.
