Pladask Elektrisk Romferd Ambience/Modulation Unit

Noisy pedals are fun, hands down. They can be inspiring and musical (if you can get them to behave slightly), and taming their wildness is one of our favorite things in the world. Therefore, we’re excited once again to be perusing a pedal from our friend Knut over at Pladask Elektrisk – the Romferd Ambience/Modulation Unit. This thing will do slow, mellow ambience or out-of-control, feedback-infused chaos – it’s all up to YOU.

As with most Pladask pedals, Romferd isn’t the easiest to describe, but we’ll give it a go. It is a modulation and ambient effect with a lot of versatility, conjuring up resonant metallic atmospheres, act as a thick chorus or add parasitic, distortion-esque flutter with its unique self-modulation control. Romferd is aimed at the experimental musical with a broad definition of musicality. Combining elements of vibrato, chorus and reverb with a low pass filter and runaway feedback, there’s a lot to explore in these 8 knobs.

This newest version has been updated as well, with some of the previous version’s switches being replaced with knobs, for dynamic parameter adjustment. Having that extra control over the sweep of these knobs really lets you dial in a specific sound, and create new soundscapes with ease. The active filter also has an internal resonance/Q factor trimpot, the output volume is higher and there’s an overall stronger and more linear modulation throughout.

Anyone who’s heard or owned any pedals from Pladask Elektrisk knows that locking yourself in a room and noodling for hours is the only way to really bond with the effects, but we’ve given it our best shot to explain how it works in the demo below. All the controls are explained, and we were able to come up with a TON of different sounds, some useable, some not, but ALL FUN. If you don’t enjoy making noise, or experimenting musically at all, the Romferd Ambience/Modulation Unit is probably not for you. But, if you enjoy throwing everything you thought you knew about effects pedals right out the window, you’re gonna love it. Cheers on another wonderful creation from Pladask Elektrisk – more info on their website, and don’t forget to check out the demo below!!
