Mozztronics MD-1 Mew Drive

With each new creation we see from Andrew and Mozztronics, we get a different lesson in circuitry, wiring, engineering and how to put squish amplifier tone into a pedal enclosure. Today is more of the same, as we’re investigating the MD-1 Mew Drive, which contains a circuit that uses cascaded JFET Mu amps to give a totally different sound to the screamer pedals, and all the variants (there are many). Lots of controls, lots of range, lots of overdriven glory can be found in this one…

The 5-knob control section of the Mew Drive is as follows: Purr controls the gain in the first stage, Treble, Mid and Bass are the classic 3 knob tonestack found in almost every amp under the sun, and VOLUME adjusts the overall output level of the pedal. Starting with the gain low around 9 to 10 o’clock, you will get amp like edge of breakup with a nice shimmer & touch of dirt (just like a real amp), crank the gain if you want more drive. Even with the gain cranked there is excellent note definition in chords and sustain that lasts for days.

The orange gems from Mozztronics put an instant smile on my face every time I plug ’em in, and the MD-1 Mew Drive produced the exact same result. These pedals come to us all the way from Australia, and fly waaaaay too far under the radar. If you’re in the market for anything amp-driving, or original/interesting/unique circuits, go check out the Mozztronics website and see all that they have to offer. But first, you gotta hear the MD-1 Mew Drive in action in our demo video below – enjoy it!!
