Stacks FX Ohms Series: Acid Cat Fuzz Distortion

We’ve been reviewing pedals from our friends at Stacks FX since 2015, and though it’s been a minute, we’re stoked to have some more of their gear in the shop. Today, we’re taking a look at the Ohms Series: Acid Cat Fuzz Distortion, a blistering dirt machine that’s primed to crush amps and eardrums alike. This original circuit takes your signal and sends it into brutally heavy territory with ease…

Starting off the controls is the big Volume knob right in the middle, followed by a smaller knob below it. This one sets the amount of input signal coming through, acting as a sort of “gain” control. The F switch on the left is a 3-position Fat switch that gives you control of the amount of bass injected into the signal, while the T switch lets you choose from three different hi-cut choices post-clipping. These controls are extremely interactive, and let you dial in a great sound in seconds.

The Acid Cat is very dynamic and responds really well to your guitar’s Volume level, letting you achieve some classic blues/rock tones instantly. There’s loads of output volume available for driving the input of your amp or stacking with other pedals, and it sounds radically different with different guitars, allowing each one’s character to shine through, while saturating to your taste. True bypass switching and less than 100mA power draw make it a perfect fit with any pedalboard, too, and it stacks beautifully with other pedals as well.

What else can we say? The Ohms Series: Acid Cat Fuzz Distortion is an absolute crusher of a pedal, with a nice range of mild crunch to all-out sonic destruction, and lots to explore in between those extremes.
