We see a LOT of overdrive effects come through the shop here at Pedal of the Day, so at first glance, today’s pedal *seemingly* was just another 3-knob dirt creator. Upon further investigation, however, it seems that the crew at JET Pedals has taken the conventional drive and tossed it right out the window, opting instead to create the MR JAX Overdrive Distortion. There are a lot of sounds hiding inside this one, let’s give it a look…
MR JAX is the first pedal in JET Pedals’ Signature Series, and was created in collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer and Gretsch artist Chris Rocha. Aiming to capture his signature high gain sound, MR JAX delivers an aggressive yet smooth and buttery distortion, with rich overtones and a wide-sweeping EQ curve. The best part of the pedal, though, is the 4 selectable gain stages you can conjure up on the fly…
By long-pressing the Bypass footswitch, you get to cycle through the 4 different stages of gain available here, with each level being indicated by a different color LED. White gives you 25% gain, Light Blue 50%, Purple 75% and Red gets really rippin’ at 100% gain. You can even cue up which gain stage you want when the pedal is in bypass mode, then punch it on at just the right time, controlling your distortion levels hands-free. The Level and Tone knobs provide the volume and EQ you need, rounding out an incredible versatile piece of musical gear.
WAIT!! Almost forget that if you double-tap the Bypass switch, you immediately enter into Mid-Boost mode, which adds in just enough volume boost and saturation to jump into lead territory, no matter which gain stage you’ve selected. Just another awesome feature on the MR JAX Overdrive Distortion from JET Pedals – you really do need to see/hear this thing in action, and luckily, we’ve got a demo video below that will take you through all the ins and outs of this creation.
