Chase Bliss Generation Loss MKII VCR Duplicator

Continuing our awesome week of reviews and demos, which has included the Eventide H90 Harmonizer® and the Meris LVX Modular Delay System, we bring you the highly-anticipated Chase Bliss Generation Loss MKII VCR Duplicator. A comprehensive study and smorgasbord of tape in all its forms, this effect is somewhat hard to categorize, and those are always some of our favorite pieces of gear. We should also mention that this is the first Chase Bliss pedal with STEREO connectivity, a feature that we and many others have been waiting years for! There’s a fair amount to investigate here, so let’s just jump right in, shall we?

Starting from scratch and really exploring what tape is all about, Joel and the Chase Bliss crew took apart VCRs and analyzed anything that could have a tape in it, from camcorders to cassette decks. The tape sound is so unique and magical, and the goal was to capture the entire spectrum of sounds available and put them into one wonderful enclosure. The Generation Loss MKII lets you saturate, fail, wow and flutter and more, until you have the perfect sound…or a perfectly destroyed, blissful sonic stew.

Within Gen Loss MKII are all the parts you need to faithfully recreate a whole library of tape machines, or simply create something brand new. A magnetically saturated chorus, a randomized stereo splitter, a versatile EQ and more are waiting at your fingertips. Wow, Flutter, Saturate, Failure, Noise – these are words that are littered throughout this pedal, and are just some of what you’ll find under the hood of this unparalleled unit.

In addition, the Generation Loss MKII features MIDI, CV and Expression control, presets, and internal modulation of all its knobs. As with all pedals of this magnitude, the manual here is DEEEEEP, diving into all aspects of control for this complex, mysterious machine. We’ll just let you read through it yourself when your pedal arrives, but for now, we have created a couple of demo videos that veer away from the norm here at Pedal of the Day. Wanting the demos to be as unique as this effect, we did one using the excellent Brian Eno-designed app Bloom, and one using the Korg Monotribe Analogue Ribbon Station, for 2 different types of input source. The result, besides being a ton of fun to create, was an incomparable collection of sounds we have definitely never heard before. This pedal is inspiring, beautiful and bold – cheers to Chase Bliss on yet another fantastic creation. Check out their site for more info and ordering, and grab those headphones before you head to YouTube to watch our demo videos!!
