1981 Inventions LVL Full-Range Overdrive Preamp Boost

If you’ve never had the pleasure of playing a DRV Overdrive Distortion, you should make it a priority to do so. While that pedal has a lot of meat and potatoes to it, today’s pedal from 1981 Inventions is a bit calmer, but still brings beautiful tone to any rig. The LVL Full-Range Overdrive Preamp Boost has just 2 knobs, but inside this circuit there’s a huge range of sounds waiting to be discovered…

LVL is a professional low-gain device, which achieves overdrive gain ranges with a new and unique circuit. A combination of light clipping and op-amp push gives the pedal a unique sound and gain structure. It’s the culmination of a 4-year process, and a collaborative effort John Snyder of Electronic Audio Experiments.

The LVL Full-Range Overdrive Preamp Boost works great on bass, which is what Full-Range refers to. It stacks with anything, makes most fuzzes better if you put it after, and makes most overdrives better if you put it before. It’s also great if you hit the front end with a little boost! Don’t let the simple 2-knob control section fool you: you’ll spend hours twisting and tweaking, finding your perfect sound, or sounds, along the way. There’s more info on the 1981 Inventions website, and we run through a lot of tones in our demo video below, so don’t miss it!!
